Key information

As a Casual Family Support Worker, you will work as one of the PACT Family team, you will be based primarily in the prison's Visitor Centre and visits hall providing support, advice and guidance to families visiting prisoners, facilitating prison visits and family days and supporting the play service.

A Casual Family Support Worker provides support to families visiting loved ones in the Visitor Centre. Visitor Centre services include play and children’s services; and a catering service.

About the role

  • To offer a friendly and welcoming environment within the Visitors Centre, where people visiting the prison, can spend time before and after their visit.
  • To assist in the operation of the Centre ensuring the Centre is open at the specified times and support volunteers and other members of the team.
  • To assist with booking in of visitors in line with Pact and the prison’s procedures.
  • To identify first time visitors and ensure they are provided with enhanced support and reassurance

Requirements

  • Clear understanding of professional boundaries which will enable you to work with prisoners and their families.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding.
  • Good understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
  • Experience of working directly with children, young people and their families using an appropriate range of techniques.
  • Good experience and skills of planning creative, relevant play activities for children.
  • Experience of working in a team and also of using own initiative with limited supervision.
