As a Children’s senior support worker, no two days are the same and you will be instrumental in creating a nurturing and supportive environment where young people can thrive and achieve positive outcomes.

You will encourage new experiences and support young people to develop their own identity, confidence, and independence, along with the help and guidance of your colleagues and Break’s therapeutic services.

Day to day you may find yourself planning and taking part in trips and activities alongside learning new skills to help young people overcome communication difficulties.

This role may occasionally involve a physical element helping young people in and out of wheelchairs and using hoists.  

Please note that you must have a full, valid, manual driving licence.

• To be able to evidence Break’s values at all times. 
• To develop and maintain good working relationships, where appropriate, with fellow professionals as well as with parents, other family members and school staff. 
• To protect the service-users from threat to their health, well-being and development, both from inside and outside the home. 
• Where possible, to ensure service-users are included in any decision-making related to the day-to-day running of the home / shifts. 
• To maintain a home environment that is appropriate and sensitive to the needs of the children and young people including specific needs such as dietary requirements, cultural activities and religious observance. 
• To ensure the key stages such as referral, admission and transition run smoothly and timely and reflect decisions recorded in care plans.

• Complete a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare within 2 years. 
• Work flexibly, following either own initiative or as part of a team. 
• Undertake sleep in duties where appropriate. 
• Communicate effectively and demonstrate strong listening skills. 
• Establish caring relationships within professional boundaries. 
• Deal with challenging behaviour. 
• Maintain accurate records and write reports.
• Work calmly under pressure.
• Good standard of written and spoken English.
• Drive and hold a full clean Driving Licence.
