Key information

As a Break support worker, you will be working hands on day in day out with the young people living in the children’s home. You will build relationships with the young people we care for and support in our homes. 

About the role

  • Able to evidence Break’s values at all times. 
  • To develop and maintain good working relationships (where appropriate) with fellow professionals as well as with parents, other family members and school staff.
  • To access identified developmental opportunities for children and young people.
  • To protect the children and young people from threats to their health, wellbeing and development, both from inside and outside the home.
  • To maintain a home environment that is appropriate and sensitive to the needs of the children and young people including specific needs such as dietary requirements, cultural activities and religious observance.
  • Ensure, where possible, that children and young people are included in any decision making related to the day to day running of the home. 
  • Ensure that children and young people are informed enough of their circumstances and rights, empowering and supporting them in taking responsibility for themselves where they can reasonably be expected to. 
  • Promote young people’s hobbies and interests, planning individual activities.

Requirements

The following criteria are essential:

  • Completed or willing to complete the National Vocational Qualification Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare.
  • Required to work shifts. 
  • Work flexibly, following either own initiative or as part of a team. 
  • Provide personal care
  • Undertake sleep in duties where appropriate. 
  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate strong listening skills. 
  • Establish caring relationships within professional boundaries. 
  • Resilient enough to deal with challenging behaviour, complex emotional and behavioural needs of the young people we support.
  • Work calmly under pressure. 
  • Maintain accurate records and write reports.
  • Drive and hold a full, valid, clean, manual Driving Licence.
