(38 Hours per week. Five sleep ins per month are required.)

Key information

As a Break Support Worker, you will be working hands on day in day out with the young people living in the children’s home.

You will work with a tight knit team of colleagues to build a relationship and trust bond with the young people living at the home. You will be a positive role model, supporting them in overcoming their previous trauma and learning to trust in adults again, along with the help and guidance of your colleagues and Break’s therapeutic services.  You will encourage new experiences, supporting the young people to develop their own identity.

About the role

  • To develop and maintain good working relationships where appropriate with fellow professionals as well as with parents, other family members and school staff. 
  • To access identified developmental opportunities for children and young people.
  • To protect the children and young people from threats to their health, wellbeing and development, both from inside and outside the home.
  • To maintain a home environment that is appropriate and sensitive to the needs of the children and young people including specific needs such as: dietary requirements, cultural activities and religious observance.
  • Ensure, where possible, that children and young people are included in any decision making related to the day to day running of the home.
  • Ensure that children and young people are informed enough of their circumstances and rights, empowering and supporting them in taking responsibility for themselves where they can reasonably be expected to.

Requirements

  • Complete National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level Three Diploma within two years.
  • Work flexibly, following either own initiative or as part of a team.
  • Undertake sleep in duties where appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate strong listening skills.
  • Establish caring relationships within professional boundaries.
  • Deal with challenging behaviour.
  • Maintain accurate records and write reports.
  • Work calmly under pressure.
  • Drive and hold a full clean Driving Licence.
  • An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check will be required which will be funded by Break.
