Key information

The main purpose of the role will be to deliver an agreed programme of collections management across a range of social history and industry objects. This will include cataloguing and auditing collections, reviewing and addressing a range of backlog collections management issues, assisting with collections rationalisation, and co-ordinating inward and outward loan paperwork.  

This role will be based at St Fagans National Museum of History and the National Collections Centre, Nantgarw, but with a requirement to work at other Amgueddfa Cymru venues. The collections are stored in a range of different storage areas and environments across our family of museums.

About the role

  • Assist with the development, and delivery of a programme to address backlog collections and documentation, delivering this by creating inventory level records on the Content Management System.
  • Improve catalogue entries on the Content Management System in line with departmental demands. 
  • Assist with the documentation of inward and outward loans and provide support with the collections management of Amgueddfa Cymru’s exhibitions programme, ensuring that accurate location records are held on Content Management System. 
  • Assist curatorial staff in the movement of objects in and out of stores to provide access to the collections by a range of diverse users where needed, ensuring location movements follow museum procedures. 
  • Provide support with the movement of objects and documentation paperwork as part of the museum’s ongoing digitisation of collections. 
  • Champion people’s cultural rights and promote understanding of equality and tolerance of cultural difference.

Requirements

  • Welsh Essential - Proficiency.
  • A degree in history or museology, or equivalent practical professional experience. 
  • Experience of working with museum collections at a similar level, and an ability to identify museum objects. 
  • Current knowledge of museum collections management standards and procedures. 
  • Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise workloads and work with competing deadlines across multiple work areas.
