The Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom’s national museum of arms and armour and one of the most important collections of its type in the world, housed at its headquarters and flagship museum in Leeds, its historic home at the Tower of London, and the Victorian Fort Nelson in Hampshire.

(36 hours per week, 5 days out of 7. The post holder must be prepared to work on occasion at the weekend, on Bank Holidays and in the evenings.)

Key information

We have an exciting opportunity for a Communications Officer to join our award winning Marketing and Communications team. Reporting to the Communications and Social Media Manager the successful applicant will be essential in our ambitious plans to increase our engagement with audiences across a range of communications channels.

The role will be hybrid working from home and onsite (3 days per week), based at the Royal Armouries Leeds site.

Interview dates: 2nd and 3rd February

About the role

  • Maintain the museum’s content calendar, ensuring all digital communications are planned, scheduled, and delivered on time across relevant channels.
  • Contribute ideas, research, and assets to support organic content, campaign planning, seasonal initiatives, and long-term audience engagement strategies.
  • Produce high-quality written, visual, and multimedia content that showcases the museum’s collection, exhibitions, research, and public programmes.
  • Monitor and respond to activity on social media channels, alerting the team to potential communication issues and working with the Communications and Social Media Manager to mitigate as may be necessary.
  • Supporting the Head of Marketing and Communications and Communications and Social Media Manager with the internal communications plan.
  • Creating a bi-monthly internal newsletter for all staff, working across the museum to gather information and highlight key events for museum wide awareness.

Requirements

  • Degree in marketing or equivalent in communications experience.
  • Experience within marketing and communications in a similar role.
  • Strong analytical, administrative, planning, organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent copywriting skills.
  •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to research, plan and implement social media campaigns.
  • Working flexibly to achieve department goals.
