Historic England has a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Data Analyst (UX).

This is a full time, fixed term contract position until March 2029.

The location of this role is Swindon, inclusive with hybrid working.

About the role

  • Responsible for configuration, management, testing, and maintenance of digital analytics tools – including GA4, GTM, Silktide, Umbraco Engage, and Cloudflare – to ensure accuracy, reliability and compliance with data protection regulations such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This includes troubleshooting tagging issues, verifying data flows, updating tracking as products evolve and monitoring website features and digital product performance through key metrics such as user engagement and conversion rates.
  • Responsible for collecting, analysing, and interpreting data on user interactions across both owned and third-party digital platforms, including AI search behaviour, to provide actionable insights that inform product decisions and prioritisation. With particular focus on those products which support income generation.
  • Collaborate with UX colleagues, Developers and the Data Engineer to implement analytics tracking and translate complex data into clear and actionable recommendations which support the evolution of new and existing features.
  • Monitor compliance with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2 level AA) across all owned channels using automated tools and manual checks where necessary, alerting appropriate technical or content team when issues arise.
  • As part of the UX team track user behaviour, identify patterns and pain points, conduct benefits realisation for newly released features and products, and use evidence to challenge assumptions.
  • Work alongside our Data Engineer and analysts in Marketing and Media to provide basic training in analytics tools, share relevant data and metrics, and build departmental maturity in interpreting and analysing reports.

Requirements

  • Experience in configuring analytics tracking, creating reports and visualisations, and interpreting data to deliver actionable insights for digital products.
  • Demonstrable track record of working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, including Developers and Designers.
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 level AA web accessibility guidelines.
  • Skilled user of analytical tools, for example. Google Tag Manager, GA4 or similar.
  • Experience of up skilling colleagues in using and understanding analytical data.
  • Experience in UX research within a user-centric design process.
