Key information

We have an opportunity for an Engagement and Support Officer to join our Employ Me team to support delivery of the supported employment programmes across Staffordshire Moorlands and Newcastle-under Lyme.

Mencap's Employ Me team provide supported employment programmes for people with a learning disability, learning difficulty and autism. 

The Employ Me team work with partners to develop innovative and inclusive programmes that will support people to develop skills, knowledge and experience that leads to paid employment opportunities.

About the role

  • The Engagement and Support Officer (ESO) in the Employ Me team, ensures that all people we support have access to high quality, suitable work experience and paid work opportunities  
  • The Engagement and Support Officer develops and maintains strong partnerships with a range of employers; creating opportunities through promotion of the programme and people we support to employers. They will present a compelling rationale to employers based on research of their business and using Mencap’s business case 
  • The role will deliver Learning Disability Awareness sessions with a co-trainer and ensure the employer has good experience of working with Mencap. Keeping employer information up to date on the management information system will be a key requirement of this role. 
  • The role will include networking with local providers and support agencies to promote the programme and generate referrals, supporting the service to meet expected start profiles

Requirements

  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Be approachable across all levels to build partnerships with employers and referral partners.
  • Prior experience of networking and engagement with an ability to communicate and present to different audiences using different formats.
  • Knowledge of supported employment and meeting employment outcomes.
