London Museum (Smithfield)

Key information

The Experience and Operations team are vital to this mission. You’ll be part of a team that ensures every visitor feels welcome, every event runs seamlessly, and every corner of the museum hums with life. Here, Grit and Glitter guide everything we do: the depth, texture, and authenticity of the city’s stories, alongside moments of surprise, delight, and magic. In these roles, you’ll help create experiences that are vibrant, inclusive, and unforgettable, shaping how thousands of people encounter London every day.

About the role

This is a leadership role for someone who thrives in live environments — commercially aware, operationally confident, and motivated by building teams that don’t just meet expectations but raise them.

If you are successfully shortlisted you will invited to an interview where you will asked questions to help us understand more about what you share in your application, and in particular to understand how you meet the essential person specification criteria for the role and demonstrate our museum behaviours.

London Museum is committed to being an equitable and inclusive employer, and to becoming representative of the diversity of London. We particularly welcome applications from people from Global Majority backgrounds, who are currently under-represented in our organisation.

We also welcome applications from disabled people, as we’re a Disability Confident Leader and are committed to recruiting, retaining and developing disabled people.

Requirements

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic operational leader with a proven track record in managing large, complex, visitor-facing environments such as cultural venues, attractions, hospitality, or retail. The successful candidate will be an inspiring leader who can develop managers, build strong teams, and foster a high-performing, positive culture. They will also bring confidence in overseeing live operations, ensuring excellent coordination across teams while maintaining the highest standards of health and safety.

Previous experience of working in a museum is not required and you do not need to have any academic qualifications; we are looking for someone who has the ability to lead teams with energy and clarity, inspire people to perform at their best, and confidently manage a busy, visitor-focused environment.
