Key information

You will undertake work, care and support programmes to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. You will under the instructions and guidance of senior and or teaching staff to support the delivery of quality learning and teaching and to help raise standards of achievement for all pupils.

About the role

  • Support pupils’ development and promote independence in a safe, secure, challenging environment employing strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self reliance.
  • Support the learning of individuals and groups of pupils as identified in the weekly curriculum planning and to act as a role model, setting high expectations.
  • Focus on individual pupils to ensure their needs are being met within the group.
  • Work with other staff to develop and implement the Individual provision map for pupils.
  • Observe, record and support the development and progress of pupils to identify individual needs and difficulties and to feed back to pupils in relation to their progress and achievement.
  • To meet the physical and medical needs of the pupil according to a pupil’s individual care plan whilst encouraging independence wherever possible. Medical needs include: the administration of medicines by mouth or other medical procedures provided appropriate training has been given by an appropriate person.
  • Participate in pupils' play and extend and stimulate language through conversation.

Requirements

  • Have General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) in English and Maths at Grade C or Level 4 and above.
  • National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level Two for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualifications or experience.
  • Proven successful experience of working with children in an educational setting including those with special educational needs.
  • Ability to contribute effectively to the workload, planning, supervision and responsibilities of the team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Communication skills to promote and develop effective working with children, colleagues and agencies at an appropriate level to achieve understanding and constructive response.
  • Be willing to take on some extracurricular responsibilities such as the Before and After School Clubs and Holiday Clubs which you will be paid in addition.
