We’re looking for a dedicated Floating Support Worker to join our Housing First Team on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in developing and strengthening the Housing First approach across Newport, helping us make a real difference in people’s lives.

Key information

Housing First is a unique and  internationally evidenced approach to supporting the most excluded, long-term, entrenched and cyclically homeless  individuals and those living rough on the streets. It focuses on finding permanent housing as quickly as possible and then addressing the issues that have contributed to an individual’s homelessness.

About the role

As a Floating Support Worker your day will consist of:

  • Supporting the Housing First Co-ordinators to support individuals with highly complex needs from rough sleeping into their own accommodation.
  • Engage and interact positively with the people we support to establish goals to work towards
  • Support customers to make an informed choice relating to the sourcing of appropriate accommodation.
  • Conduct all work within the Welsh Government’s Housing First Principles
  • Visit customers to conduct a welfare check, offer support, information and advice with open and honest conversations.
  • Work with external agencies and signpost the people we support to the appropriate services suited to their needs
  • Awareness of safe working practices, such as the Lone working and safeguarding policy.

Requirements

Our aim is to ensure we equip the people we support with the knowledge and tools they need to help them manage their home independently. This is a challenging role and you may be faced with complex situations and difficult conversations, behaviours and needs. These individuals will have a variety of support needs including but not limited to:

  • Substance Misuse
  • Mental health
  • Physical health
  • Entrenched and extended periods of rough sleeping
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences
  • Complex trauma

Therefore, you will need to be resilient to cope with the ever-changing circumstances and the emotional needs of people.
