About the role

As a Functional Skills Tutor for Children Looked After, you will: 

  • focus on Maths and plan lessons tailored to meet the unique needs of the students while also covering content required to sit the appropriate Functional Skills (FS) exam.
  • use creative planning approaches to make learning relevant to real life contexts that interest and engage the students.
  • plan activities to build confidence, resilience and persistence within sessions to prepare students for less intensive support, creating opportunities for socialisation and collaboration between individuals in lessons to prepare students for larger classes in the future.
  • undertake diagnostic assessments, write reports, set appropriate initial Functional Skills objectives and support the students to achieve.

Requirements

  • We are looking for a tutor to teach Functional Skills (FS) Maths to Children Looked After (CLA) and vulnerable students including SEND in KS3 through to Post 16.
  • You will hold a Level 5 Diploma in Teaching with a specialist pathway in Mathematics (Numeracy) or will be able to demonstrate equivalent experience. 
  • You will also have experience supporting learners in a Secondary or Post‑16 setting and a proven knowledge of Maths Functional Skills programmes. 
  • Daytime availability for teaching is essential.
