Key information

The Woodland Trust is looking for a Fundraising Development Officer to join the Fundraising Development team and play a key role in raising vital income to support nature recovery across South West England. 

About the role

  • Research, identify, influence, build, develop and manage a portfolio and pipeline of Major Donors (prospects and existing) to secure income, improve loyalty, increase income, and recognise the importance of blended giving within life and through legacy planning across Philanthropy.
  • Lead the development and implement funding plans for a key landscape scale initiative :the Rainforest Recovery Treescape, acting as an internal advocate across Fundraising Department to secure funds for project delivery. 
  • Identify, develop and build effective relationships both internally and externally to grow income, on a restricted and unrestricted basis, maximising all key opportunities both within the region and throughout the Woodland Trust as agreed with the Regional Development Manager. 
  • Hold appropriate Project Fundraiser roles to achieve direct income and enable fundraising colleagues to maximise income throughout the South-West including the creation of proposals, and supportive collateral.
  • Work alongside the South West England team and wider fundraising colleagues to create, implement and deliver an agreed fundraising plan for all relevant areas including Treescapes, which will enable the Woodland Trust to drive nature recovery across our estate as well as through outreach including consideration of relevant Acquisitions.
  •  Support the Philanthropy event programme, as required including the South West England region and wider UK, by creating, leading and maximising opportunities as appropriate. 
  • Fundraise from a diverse range of regional appeals and local grant sources like landfill communities fund, local authorities, and lottery. 
  • Working closely with colleagues in the Grants team, South-West Operational and wider team, as well as the Regional Director (including wider fundraising colleagues, countries and regions as deemed appropriate by the Regional Development Manager) to submit bids against budgeted Estate works and plans for all areas of work within the South-West region including outreach.

Requirements

  • Experience of working in fundraising or third sector or in a targeted communications environment
  • Outstanding communication skills: must be confident and comfortable communicating through formal and informal methods to engage and inspire a range of audiences and individuals
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills gained in a busy, target driven environment.
  • Excellent negotiation and collaboration skills along with partnership work, enthusiasm and strong influencing and networking skills
  • Experience in developing and building key prospect pipelines
  • Ability to travel frequently to meetings, woodland visits and events both within the South West England region and less frequently across the UK. With visits to the UK head office in Grantham. All of which may require overnight stays, as appropriate
  • IT literate, experience of Microsoft office and D365 database management
  • Communicate effectively, collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, build effective and developmental relationships and lead fundraising approaches
  • Be able to challenge, improve ways to influence and seek new opportunities and initiate ways to evolve and develop
  • Adapt, prioritise for impact and ensure effective decision making
  • Inspire and influence others, think strategically and connect to the bigger picture and consider ways to ensure maximum results
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Pre-employment checks including Right to Work and confirmation of employment history (3-years).
