Key information

Thirteen Group is on the lookout for a Housing Litigation Solicitor (internally known as Housing Litigator) to join our Legal team.

Supporting our Housing and Communities directorate, you’ll manage a varied caseload of housing litigation and provide clear legal advice to colleagues across the business.

Your work will cover a broad range of housing-related matters, including anti-social behaviour, possession, injunctions, committal, disrepair, access, tenancy enforcement, assignment and succession matters.

This is a hybrid role, offering a balance of home and office working. You'll be expected to spend 2 to 3 days per week working from our fantastic Hudson Quay office in Middlesbrough, with the remainder of your time working from home. As business and team needs can vary, you'll need to be adaptable and may be required to spend additional time in the office when needed.

About the role

  • Provide housing litigation support through effective case management and ensuring legal advice is sound, proportionate and properly evidenced.
  • Maintain accurate case records, evidence bundles, instructions and litigation documents, ensuring matters progress efficiently and within required timescales.
  • Represent Thirteen in court proceedings, hearings and other legal forums. You’ll prepare and present cases and instruct counsel, solicitors, experts and witnesses where appropriate.
  • Provide legal advice and training on litigation, tenancy enforcement, evidence, procedure and customer-related matters, enabling colleagues to make informed decisions.
  • Keep up to date with housing law, court procedure, pre-action requirements and legislation to help teams understand and apply legal requirements consistently.

Requirements

  • You’ll hold a professional legal accreditation as recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority or equivalent professional body.
  • Fantastic knowledge of housing law, pre-action protocols, civil procedure and court processes.
  • You'll have excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to assess legal risk, evaluate prospects of success and provide balanced, practical advice.
  • Experience managing a complex and varied caseload, consistently delivering positive outcomes and working to tight deadlines.
  • A great relationship builder, with the ability to influence, negotiate and expertly explain legal options clearly to colleagues, customers, witnesses and external representatives.
  • Confident producing clear, concise and well-reasoned legal reports, correspondence and court documentation.
