Key information

This could mean stopping evictions, winning housing repairs or safe accommodation for our members, or fighting for fair treatment at work. As part of this role, you will launch an exciting new project on issues relating to the impact of climate change on our communities.

ACORN is a mass membership organisation and a direct action community union. By taking action on issues that affect us, we win real changes to our lives and in our communities.

About the role

Your daily work will involve

  • recruiting individual ACORN members through in person outreach, online interaction and other means (door-knocking, street stalls and other community outreach takes up around half of our organisers’ time)
  • evaluating whether ACORN can support someone (e.g. a person whose landlord is refusing to make repairs), and empower them to take action to confront injustice, including building a team of ACORN members to stand up for each other
  • building new and maintaining existing ACORN groups and teams, including through organising drives
  • identifying and taking action on issues that affect our members and their communities
  • and much more!

ACORN is a Disability Confident Committed employer. We do our best to offer a guaranteed interview to any disabled candidate who meets the minimum essential criteria for the role. Please note that if we receive a high-volume of applications it may not be practicable to interview every eligible candidate. In these instances, we may limit the number of interviews offered to both disabled and non-disabled applicants, but we remain dedicated to ensuring a fair and inclusive process. Please indicate your status and any required adjustments on your application form.

Requirements

No formal qualifications are necessary! We’re primarily looking for candidates with a strong work ethic, good listening skills and the ability to motivate others.
