We are recruiting for a Junior Technician

Key information

The purpose of the job is to provide technical support for the research and development teams.

About the role

  • Stock checks of consumables and reagents in the laboratories and stock room
  • Ordering and restocking of laboratory consumables
  • Developing and drafting SOPs/ Work instructions for the unit operations use, cleaning and maintenance of equipment that are being developed
  • Chemical inventory management
  • Waste disposal of, including chemical, biological and clinical waste
  • Take and return laboratory coats from laundry service, from our warehouse
  • Work with the warehouse team to accept R and D deliveries and distribute 
  • Distributing orders to scientists
  • Assist in the performance of routine maintenance of the Laboratory equipment
  • Preparation of laboratory reagents, buffers and plates
  • Cleaning of laboratory areas and general housekeeping
  • Changing and replenishing of gas cylinders and liquid nitrogen stocks
  • Troubleshooting equipment faults

Additional Activities

  • Monthly check of stocks at our Wembley warehouse
  • Weekend work of up to 4 scheduled weekends a year
  • Availability for emergency call outs out of hours
  • The post-holder will be expected to carry out any other duties that are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job

Minimum requirements

  • Basic Maths and English at, GSCE level
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to move/lift heavy loads
  • Strong organisation and communication skills
  • Basic understanding of Health and Safety in a laboratory
