Kew Wakehurst is looking for an experienced Media and Communications Officer to join their dynamic on-site Marketing and Strategic Communications team in Sussex.

About the role

  • The Media and Communications Officer is responsible for providing crucial support to Kew Wakehurst’s Marketing and Strategic Communications Group, ensuring impactful storytelling through PR and digital content that will drive engagement, visitation and brand awareness. 
  • The postholder will contribute to the delivery of a strong media profile for Wakehurst. They will work with the Strategic Communications Manager and the Senior Press Officer to deliver creative PR campaigns that develop Kew Wakehurst’s reputation as a wild botanic garden and living laboratory, whilst contributing to the efficient running of the Wakehurst press office function. 
  • They will work closely with colleagues within the Marketing and Strategic Communications Group to ensure that Wakehurst’s communication activity contributes to RBG Kew’s over-arching brand perception shift project, developing and delivering truly integrated communications and maintaining a brand-led and competitive digital profile for Wakehurst. 
  • They will also support storytelling and content gathering by identifying and writing stories that support our communications goals The postholder will also work closely with teams in RBG Kew’s Marketing & Commercial Enterprise Directorate including Kew PR, Science Comms and Horticulturists
  • Please note that this role is based at Wakehurst in Sussex and will involve occasional out-of-hours working, including early mornings, evenings and weekends and on call duties at peak times and during events.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years’ experience of working in a varied communications role
  • Demonstrable experience creating and delivering PR campaigns
  • Experience of working as part of a press office function, including using media databases for distribution
    and monitoring
  • Experience of copy writing, planning and creating content for digital channels including social media and
    email
  • Experience in campaign reporting and analysis
  • Proficient in MS Office suite including Sharepoint, teams, one note, excel
  • Able to demonstrate good organisational skill and ability to juggle multiple tasks. 
  • Must have worked in a role that required prioritisation
  • Strong IT skills
  • Used to working within organisational parameters and templates such as brand guidelines, and able to apply these to own and others’ work
  • Experience in multi-channel communications campaign development and delivery including writing PR and
    digital communications plans, pitching to the media and evaluating campaign results
  • Ability to self-motivate, prioritise and manage a varied workload under pressure to tight deadlines
