Key information

The role of Multi Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias) is to deliver planned and reactive maintenance within a busy retail environment, ensuring safe, reliable and compliant operation of all electrical infrastructure and associated building services. 

About the role

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works as directed by the Maintenance Manager. 
  • Electrical fault-finding, diagnostics, repairs, testing, and minor installation works on:  
  • Lighting systems and controls 
  • Power distribution (LV systems) 
  • Emergency lighting 
  • Motors, drives, and control panels 
  • Circuit protection equipment 
  • Small power systems 
  • Perform statutory compliance duties including:  
  • Emergency light testing 
  • RCD testing 
  • Distribution board inspections 
  • Portable appliance testing (if required) 
  • Support mechanical and fabric tasks where competent, assisting the wider maintenance team.

Requirements

  • Recognised electrical qualification (NVQ Level 2/3, City and Guilds 2330/2365, or equivalent). 
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671). 
  • Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent electrical training. 
  • Demonstrable experience in commercial electrical building services. 
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability on electrical systems. 
  • Awareness of basic mechanical systems (HVAC, pumps, motors etc.). 
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation and safe systems of work. 
  • Competent in safe electrical isolation procedures. 
  • Strong communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing operational requirements. 

DESIRABLE 

  • Test & Inspection qualification (City and Guilds 2391 or equivalent). 
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS). 
  • Working knowledge of HVAC plant controls. 
  • PASMA / IPAF / IOSH certification. 
  • Experience working within retail, leisure, or large commercial environments. 
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office and CMMS software.
