Key information

A unique opportunity has arisen for a qualified Occupational Therapist to join our Home First Service. The Home First Service is made up of our co-located services from across Adult Social Care and Community Health (Nursing and Therapy Teams).

This role will be based at the Neville Centre (on the Leicester General hospital site, with your own designated car parking) working mainly core office hours 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am to 4:30pm Friday. However, there will be flexibility and autonomy within this role to help manage weekly commitments and help provide support out-of-hours and weekends too.

About the role

  • Ensure the provision of case records in line with Departmental Guidance on recording standards and the specific information required for the computer referral monitoring system for the Occupational Therapy services and other Departmental statistical returns.
  • Initiate and participate in case conferences and child protection conferences and multi-disciplinary meetings in relation to people in receipt of support or who may have need for support.
  • Keep up to date with technical advances in the provision of new items of equipment designed to assist disabled adults and older people and children and young people and with developments in medical and paramedical techniques.
  • Assist in the training of Occupational Therapy students, Occupational Therapy Assistants, and other departmental personnel.
  • Assess for and arrange the provision of equipment for daily living to adults and children and young people; provide instructions and demonstration to the individuals concerned and their relatives on the use of the equipment and in the techniques of daily living.
  • Assess for and advise on the needs for structural adaptations at the homes of adults, children, and young people; makes recommendations concerning the works required to meet individual requirements and co-ordinates major adaptation cases under the supervision and guidance of the Occupational Therapy Team Leader and with support from the Major Adaptations Team.

Requirements

  • Previous Occupational Therapy experience in a Social Services Department.
  • Experience of providing support in multi cultural communities.
  • Experience of providing support and advice to carers.
  • Experience of engaging with a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise work.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in written reports.
  • Ability to keep written and computer records
