Full time, Hybrid, Permanent
Based at either of the following locations with hybrid working arrangements: Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth, Cambridge.

Key information

The primary purpose of this post is to facilitate the development of successful partnerships with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Independent Research Organisations (IROs) and research funding bodies, and to identify and support the submission of high quality proposals to research funding streams to help grow research opportunities and income.

About the role

  • Work with the Head of Research Development, the Partnerships and Philanthropy Team, the Sector Resilience and Skills Team and research managers and staff across the organisation to develop an external research engagement strategy, continuously reviewing the effectiveness of our external research collaborations and recommending improvements.
  • Identify opportunities and build new collaborative research partnerships aligned with our corporate priorities and strategies, and advise and support staff in developing effective research partnerships and collaborative projects that align with Historic England’s Research Governance Framework.
  • Monitor developments in research funding policy and identify Research Council and, in liaison with the Partnerships and Philanthropy Team, other research funding opportunities relevant to Historic England, advising the Head of Research Development and the Historic England research community accordingly.
  • Working with relevant Finance Business Partners, to use specialist knowledge of research methods, guidance and collaborations to inform the costing of Historic England’s contributions to external research funding proposals.
  • In liaison with the Head of Research Development and the Research Manager, to help review, develop, update and implement Historic England’s Strategic Research Frameworks, Research Strategy and Research Agenda to ensure they reflect current and emerging heritage sector and corporate priorities.

Requirements

  •  A high quality qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent relevant experience.
  • A good understanding of the Higher Education sector and the research funding landscape.
  • Demonstrable commitment to student development.
  • Experience in developing successful partnerships between organisations in a research context.
  • Experience in programme and or project management and budget development.
  • Good negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Aptitude for strategic thinking.
