Key information

The Independent Monitoring Service is seeking to recruit professionals with experience of working with children and vulnerable adults to the role of Independent Visitor.

The role of Independent Visitors is to provide visiting services on behalf of NYAS which are consistent with the National Quality Standards for Children’s Homes, Residential Special School Standards, Welsh National Minimum Standards, Health and Social Care Standards Scotland and Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations.

This is a self-employed position and you will be paid a sessional rate.

About the role

  • To ensure that statutory and non-statutory independent visits are undertaken within prescribed timescales
  • To provide relevant and timely reports and recommendations in order to improve outcomes for children young people and or vulnerable adults
  • To visit residential establishments or secure units at agreed intervals (as detailed in the case referral).  
  • To deal only with issues relevant to the correct conduct of a visit as specified in the case referral.

Requirements

  • A professional qualification in a related field, such as, social work, education, health, residential care, advocacy or youth work. 
  • Experience of working within a social care organisation, preferably within a regulated field.
  • IT Skills to intermediate level as a minimum. 
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to residential care, health or education.
  • Knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion principles.
