At Young Lives versus Cancer, we help children, young people and families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. You could be a part of the team making it happen.
£38,072
pro rata for part time hours.
Part time, Permanent
(24.5 hours per week.)
Split between Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

Key information

We are looking for an experienced Social Worker to join our Newcastle Team supporting children and young people diagnosed with cancer.

This role is predominantly site based with an element of working from home. Your contractual base will be both Home and Hospital.

About the role

  • Deliver all services in line with the organisation service specification.
  • Safeguard children, young people and vulnerable adults, following policy and procedure at all times.
  • Complete individual needs based assessments, identifying levels of need and risks.
  • Identify a support plan and review at regular intervals consistent with service standards and outcome measurements.
  • Work in partnership with young people and their families to meet their support needs.
  • Enable and advocate for patients to have their voices heard in treatment planning and support the social, emotional and practical needs of the young person and family.

Requirements

  • A recognised Social Worker qualification and current registration with Social Work England and Scottish Social Services Council and Social Care Wales and Northern Ireland Social Care Council.
  • Experience working with children, young people and their families and carers in a social care setting.
  • Experience of working in a multi disciplinary environment, ideally in an National Health Service (NHS) setting.
  • Sound knowledge of child and young people development.
  • An understanding of the impact of serious illness for children, young people and their families.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel using own transport.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evening and weekends. You may have to travel to other locations, with occasional overnight stays.
