We are excited to be recruiting a Health Care Assistant to work as part of a team providing prescribed care and educational support to children and young people with complex health needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a truly dedicated team who are making a difference to the lives of the children and young people who attend and reside at Seashell every day. The Healthcare Assistant is a Classroom based role combining Healthcare Assistant responsibilities with Teaching Assistant duties to ensure that students can safely access all aspects of their education, for example communication, therapies, enrichment opportunities, and wider school life.

About the role

  • Provide prescribed healthcare support to children and young people with complex needs.
  • Support students to safely access education, including learning, therapies, communication, and enrichment activities.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality care and educational support.
  • Contribute to ensuring children and young people are safe, happy, and achieving positive outcomes.
  • Assist with both healthcare and classroom duties.
  • Promote inclusion and participation in all aspects of school life.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
  • Engage in training and development to provide effective, specialist support.
  • Help create opportunities for students to reach their potential and lead fulfilled lives.

Requirements

  • Level Three Diploma in Health and Social Care and or Healthcare Support and or a Teaching Assistant qualification or willingness to work towards one.
  • Experience of medication administration training, however full training will be provided.
  • Experience of working with children and young people with learning disabilities and complex communication needs who can also have complex health and medical needs preferably in an education based environment or from working with families and carers.
  • Experience of working in an education setting and or working in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge and or experience of gastrostomy and jejunostomy epilepsy, or palliative care needs is also highly preferred but not essential.
  • First aid training.
  • General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) English and Maths Grades A to C and or equivalent.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check and full references will be taken.
