Key information

We have an exciting opportunity for a Van Driver to join our friendly team based in Shepperton and surrounding areas. This is a permanent role, working 30 hours per week, involving extensive travel to move and collect stock across locations.

About the role

  • Move stock and items as directed by the Area Business Manager on a specified geographic route.
  • Ensure that vans are loaded in a safe way ensuring that fragile and valuable items are handled appropriately to avoid damage.
  • Ensure that the van is kept clean and maintained, including daily and monthly checks.
  • Ensuring that records are maintained accurately.
  • Comply with Health and Safety regulations in relation to the vans, and loading and unloading into the stores.
  • Follow Mencap reporting guidelines for any maintenance issue, accident or incident. Assist the store teams to move stock as required.

Requirements

  • Flexible approach to working hours and days including working Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays as appropriate, and when required.
  • A friendly and approachable positive attitude to working with the store teams.
  • Experience of multi drop deliveries.
  • Assisting in area team, including cover at other stores.
  • Experience in dealing with members of the public
  • Experience in driving long wheel-based vans
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, including furniture
  • Travel to team meetings, training events, etc. This will include occasional long distances and overnight stays (expenses will be paid).
  • Able to access a telephone to provide out of hours’ emergency call cover.
  • There will be a need to lift, on a frequent basis, items of various sizes and weights.
  • Basic DBS (Criminal Record) check
  • For insurance purposes be over 24 years old, have your licence for over 12 months and have no more than 6 points on your licence.
