Job description

Role purpose:

The post holder will be responsible for providing internal and external advice on assistive solutions and digital inclusion, including case managing and delivery of reasonable adjustments for disabled colleagues. Acting as an internal consultant the post holder will work across the organisation testing digital products and services feeding back their findings and advising upon potential solutions. The role will involve liaising directly with internal stakeholders and digital product suppliers, translating accessibility needs and technical standards into practical solutions and requirements for use by colleagues and Scope’s customers.

Main responsibilities and accountabilities:

Items marked [S] are part of the secondment role and will receive development and support throughout the secondment period:

  • To carry out digital accessibility quality assurance testing to meet internal and internationally recognised quality standards [S]
  • To support the development of information and training resources in the subject of Assistive Solutions & Digital Inclusion [S]
  • Deliver specialist assistive solutions training to external professionals
  • To provide advice and guidance about the development of assistive solutions and digital inclusion to the wider team [S]
  • Develop and maintain relationships with mainstream and specialist technology providers [S]
  • To proactively manage a caseload of assistive solutions and workplace adjustment cases for Scope colleagues [S]
  • Provide advice and support on assistive solutions and digital inclusion for Scope colleagues [S]
  • To ensure that support is delivered in accordance with Scope procedures and priorities [S]
  • Work with key internal stakeholders promoting assistive solutions and digital inclusion for disabled people [S]
  • Use Scope systems and processes to purchase reasonable adjustments equipment
  • To undertake other duties as required in support of assistive solutions and digital inclusion across Scope [S]

Qualifications

Trained to carry out web accessibility QA testing to WCAG compliance. [Development in this area will be given during the secondment]

Essential

  • Knowledge of the barriers experienced by disabled people when using digital products including web sites and digital tools used in the workplace [S]
  • Knowledge of assistive technology as it is used to meet the needs of disabled people [S]
  • Handles complex issues of disability and independence with diplomacy, sensitivity and empathy [S]
  • Experience of testing web sites to meet agreed accessibility standards
  • Competent communication skills communicating in a clear, meaningful and effective way to diverse audiences [S]
  • Ability to broker internal and external relationships to ensure effective business solutions resolving conflict where necessary

Desirable

  • Web programming skills
  • Experience of providing reasonable adjustment assessments
