Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to join our in-house creative studio as a Senior Creative Copywriter. Your talent will make you an integral part of a movement committed to achieving equality and change for disabled people and their families. You will have the power to inspire and mobilise new and existing audiences to take action. Your engaging and compelling writing will embody our brand and have accessibility and inclusivity at its heart whilst helping Scope achieve its fundraising and campaigning goals. You will provide innovative creative solutions to complex briefs meeting audience needs and organisational goals, and deliver compelling and engaging copy across departments for a range of channels and audiences.

Main responsibilities

  • Interpret and interrogate briefs and devise innovative and inspiring creative solutions that meet the audience needs and organisational objectives.
  • Deliver concepts to multiple stakeholders with enthusiasm and conviction.
  • Produce copy for a range of marketing, communications, fundraising and campaigning activities for multiple channels and audiences.
  • Lead a sub-editing service to ensure consistent house style and accessibility across all of our communications.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Designer and Senior Film Producer to manage creative projects and briefs that need copy and written content, working together to interpret briefs into effective creative solutions.
  • Be a champion of our brand and ToV putting accessibility and inclusivity at the heart of everything you do.
  • Lead and manage a programme of editorial workshops to upskill colleagues and raise the standard and effectiveness of copy and written content.
  • Line manage one copywriter, taking responsibility for setting objectives, performance review, learning and development.
  • Collaborate with people with lived experience to co-produce content and activity.
  • Develop and follow processes that ensure the creative team manage and prioritise workflow
  • Keep abreast of upcoming trends across the sector and beyond.
  • Role model creative excellence and coach the team in delivering story-led, content rich assets.
  • Recruit freelance copywriters building a roster of exceptional and diverse talent.
  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing team ensuring the successful delivery of multichannel marketing materials.
  • Lead by example, live Scope’s values and provide safe working spaces that nurture employees potential.
  • Comply with all Scope’s policies, procedures and external compliance such as GDPR, complaints and best marketing practice.
  • Compliance with HR, Scope systems and processes and performance.
  • Drive the greatest impact through decisions based on prioritisation, mitigating risk and providing solutions.

Person Specification

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • A bold creative leader with extensive experience pitching and presenting concepts with enthusiasm and confidence.
  • Exceptional ability to use audience insight and convert creative trends and brand values into effective concepts that resonate with target audiences.
  • A confident and adaptable writer with solid experience writing for a range of channels and audiences including print, social media and web.
  • An effective and inspiring storyteller with exceptional narrative flair.
  • Solid project management experience, able to meet agreed deadlines to agreed specifications.
  • A confident collaborator, able to build strong relationships with key colleagues and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to build, manage and maintain dynamic relationships with external suppliers, freelancers and agencies.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback that drives bold creative.
  • Flexible and adaptable – responding positively to change.
  • A natural problem solver who can resolve conflicting priorities within projects.

Desirable

  • Demonstrable understanding of the social model of disability
