Job description

Be a Disability Gamechanger:

  • Bring Scope's brand to life with excellence in designing for online and offline channels to accessible standards.
    Lead on a diverse range of creative projects from concept to completion, focused on collaborative working and team development.
    Inspire design colleagues, freelancers and external partners to ensure all creative projects are delivered on brand, on time, in budget and to a high standard.

Main responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and best in class designs across Scope’s offline and online marketing campaigns, ensuring all outputs are of the highest standard
  • Support the Creative and Brand Lead in improving the work and efficiency of the design team
  • Lead creative workshops and brainstorms with team members from across the charity as well as freelance copywriters and designers
  • Produce inspiring and engaging content which resonates with our target audiences and drives our mission for Everyday Equality
  • Consistently and creatively apply Scope’s brand to projects across the organisation 
  • Be a guardian of Scope’s brand by ensuring best practice in tone of voice and visual identity application
  • Line manage two Midweight Designers, taking responsibility for setting objectives, performance review, learning and development.
  • Effectively communicate the long-term vision and mission of the charity in your work and in your presentations
  • Develop and follow processes that ensure the creative team manage and prioritise workflow
  • Review other designers’ work (internal or freelance) at key stages in a project schedule and be responsible for sign-off where appropriate
  • Work with freelance designers, photographers, film makers and copywriters to meet all Scope’s content needs, and ensure all assets are stored effectively via our digital asset management system 
  • Regularly recruit freelancers and agencies, liaise with them throughout the campaign and ensure they deliver a high standard of work
  • Champion accessible and inclusive design and proactively promote its importance internally and externally 
  • Work collaboratively with the Account Management team ensuring the successful delivery of multichannel marketing materials 
  • Provide technical expertise relating to print projects, as well as up-to-date knowledge on the latest digital media processes
  • Lead by example, live Scope’s values and provide safe working space that nurtures employees potential
  • Comply with all Scope’s policies, procedures and external compliance such as GDPR, complaints and best marketing practice
  • Compliance with HR, Scope systems and processes and performance
  • Drive the greatest impact through decisions based on prioritisation, mitigating risk and providing solutions

Person specification

Knowledge and experience

Relevant experience of:

  • Working in an in-house creative studio working on creative briefs from concept to delivery
  • Proven knowledge of adhering to creative production workflows and sign-off
  • Experience of working with a defined brand, applying and developing guidelines appropriately
  • Experience of team leadership and motivating colleagues to produce high quality outputs
  • Experience of reviewing others’ creative work and providing creative direction to maintain and improve standards
  • Experience of providing direction to colleagues, agencies and freelancers on how to interpret brand guidelines, and ensure all outputs meet required standards 
  • Experience of contributing to the development and implementation of processes to improve efficiency within a creative environment
  • Experience of managing digital asset management systems 

Wider knowledge (Desirable)

  • Understanding of the Social Model of Disability
  • Understanding of accessible and inclusive design principles and how to implement them
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the brand landscape in the charity sector 
  • Experience working on political campaigns, with an understanding of how to create bold and challenging designs
  • Experience working on digital and print assets for fundraising campaigns including cash appeals, raffles and lottery 

Skills and Competencies

Essential

  • Able to present a highly creative and diverse portfolio of work
  • Highly proficient with extensive experience using design software including Adobe Creative Cloud suite and Microsoft Office
  • Effective project management skills to be able to meet agreed deadlines to agreed specifications 
  • Great inter-personal skills, demonstrating an ability to build strong relationships with internal colleagues at all levels
  • Ability to build, manage and maintain strong relationships with external suppliers, freelancers and agencies
  • A creative eye with strong attention to detail
  • Flexible and adaptable – responding positively to change
  • Ability to work to agreed deadlines and resolve conflicting priorities within projects
  • Knowledge of working with MacOS

  • Good awareness of new design trends and skills
