Scope responds to omission of disability employment pledge in Queen's Speech

In response to the omission of the Conservative manifesto pledge to get a million more disabled people into work.

Mark Atkinson, Chief Executive of disability charity Scope, said:

"The Conservative party have twice committed to an ambitious target of a million more disabled people in work, but on Wednesday missed the opportunity to move forward with legislation to reform employment support and sick pay to help achieve this goal.

"This omission has a very clear impact on progress needed to tackle the disability employment gap.

"Disabled people have been cut out of the social care debate and now they have been removed from the government's employment policy.

"The "burning injustice" of disability discrimination cannot be ignored. We urge the government to set out how it intends to tackle this burning injustice, setting clear timelines for when and how it will deliver its promise."
