Everyday Equality

Our strategy 2017 to 2022

Everyday Equality is our name for Scope's 5-year strategy for 2017 to 2022. It sets out how we will drive social change so the 16 million disabled people in the UK have equal opportunities.

Everyday Equality is about fairness, justice and rights – at home, at school, at work and in our communities. It's about not feeling inferior, not being treated unfairly, not being overlooked because of who we are.

Disabled people have told us the challenges they face are changing. So we're changing to meet those challenges with them and become the go-to organisation for disability.

Our focus

We are focusing on 3 areas disabled people have told us matter most to them:

  • children and families
  • independent living
  • financial security

Ensuring disabled children get the best start in life

Every child and teenager should be able to fulfil their potential and have the confidence to succeed as they grow up.

4 in 10 parents said their disabled children rarely or never have the opportunity to play with children who are not disabled.

I worry every day about Elise’s future. I worry that when she’s at the age where she knows what’s going on, that she’ll want to join in but she can’t.

Christie, Elise's mum

Supporting disabled people to live the life they choose

Over half of disabled people who use social care can’t get the support they need to live independently. Everyone should have access to the care and support they need, in everyday life and for life’s big moments.

I was simply told that I would have to make the best of things and that I would be fed the next day.

Fighting for financial security for disabled people

Disabled people are almost twice as likely to be unemployed as non-disabled people. Everyone is entitled to the chance to work, to financial security and to a decent standard of living.

There’s a long way to go to improve attitudes and awareness in the workplace.

We need your support

Together we can take action to make sure disabled people have fairness and equality. At home. At school. In work. In our communities. Everyday equality. And we won’t stop until it happens.
