Job description

Role purpose

The Community Energy Advisor is responsible for delivering energy support sessions in local communities, empowering disabled individuals and families through workshops and one-to-one support. The focus is on assisting those facing challenges with their energy needs by providing practical advice, support, and advocacy on energy conservation, switching providers, and accessing grants or benefits.

Main responsibilities  

In this role you will be:

  • Planning and delivering engaging and informative energy support workshops within local communities, tailoring content to meet the diverse needs of attendees.
  • Providing one-to-one support to individuals requiring more in-depth assistance, including conducting home energy assessments and offering tailored advice.
  • Collaborating with local organisations and stakeholders to identify and reach out to communities and individuals who would benefit most from energy advice and support.
  • Developing and distributing educational materials on energy saving, bill management, and the benefits of renewable energy sources.
  • Tracking and evaluating the impact of community sessions and one-to-one interventions, adjusting strategies to improve outreach and support effectiveness.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of energy sector developments, including changes in legislation, available grants, and best practices in energy conservation.

Person specification 

Knowledge and experience 

Essential 

  • Delivery of presentations and workshops within local communities.
  • Delivery of 121 sessions with vulnerable customers.
  • Experience of building partnerships with local organisations and stakeholders.
  • Has evaluated impact of community sessions and one-to-one interventions.
  • Willingness to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS – formerly CRB)
  • Able to work as part of a team

Desirable

  • Understanding of the social model of disability. 
  • Develop and distribute educational materials on energy saving, bill management, and the benefits of renewable energy sources.
  • Basic understanding of the energy sector and support available.
  • Experience working with vulnerable customers
  • Experience of lone working
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of energy sector developments, including changes in legislation, available grants, and best practices in energy conservation
