Role purpose
Communities are a key enabler for delivering the goals within our ‘An Equal Future’ Strategy. This role will be responsible for establishing
Scope’s first iteration of a community hub, taking it from concept to delivery. Leading all aspects of the hub’s delivery and inter-team relationships. Using what you learn to inform future iterations of our community work.
Scope’s relationships and connections across the region, working closely with disabled people’s organisations, business communities, regional policymakers, media, Scope supporters and the public.
To communicate confidently at all levels from members of the public to regional leaders. Connecting people, forming, and facilitating relationships balancing the maintenance of these whilst sharing contacts with colleagues at the hub across Scope and the disability community.
To lead the hub’s successful delivery, liaising with local teams to ensure processes are in place to enable a successful work and community environment. Working with the Leeds team and key partners to establish a successful range of events and community partnerships.
To work closely with Scope community teams and leaders playing a full role in all aspects of Scope’s community plans and across teams, including; services, retail, fundraising, business influencing, communications, policy, and campaigns.
To support the delivery of Scope’s strategy and specified goals ensuring conversations, and relationships reflect this.

Main responsibilities
- Community Engagement: Expand the network of the Hub by establishing and nurturing relationships with local and regional influencers, businesses, and like-minded communities.
- Community Events: Co-creating and implementing engaging events, workshops, and partnerships at the Hub and within the region. With the aim to foster interaction and knowledge sharing across the community in Leeds, aligning with our goals in Scope’s ‘An Equal Future’ Strategy.
- Communication: Be the bridge between Scope and its community forging relationships for change. Promoting Scope’s offer of Services, Retail Stores, volunteering, and campaigns. Maximising involvement in our events, activities, and research. Leading conversations that connect our campaigns, events, and activities, to action. Represent Scope at a regional level.
- Networking: Find opportunities for partnerships and collaborations within the Leeds community to expand Scope’s reach and impact and develop an ongoing calendar of events and engagement. These events will be vibrant, inclusive and build positive social change with the disabled community in Leeds and supporters. Identify and materialise opportunities for partnership, collaboration, and influence.
- Digital: Develop content that showcases the vibrancy of the community and how the Hub contributes to this. Maintain a social media presence for the Hub, promoting communications, events and activities of the Hub and region. Working with Scope’s communication teams to ensure alignment.
- Innovation: Constantly seeking new ways to enhance the community experience at the Hub by keeping it fresh and exciting. Seeking opportunities to partner with and enable others to join our work and create change.
- Marketing: Help to develop marketing strategies to promote the Hub and the work that comes out of it, establishing the Hub as a vibrant community space and Scope as an active community partner.
- Measuring Success: Help to develop KPIs and feedback to measure the success of the Hub and its impact on the local community in Leeds.

Knowledge and experience
Essential
- Demonstrable experience of managing community relationships.
- Demonstrable experience of managing positive relationships with senior colleagues and influencers
- Demonstrable experience of working with a CRM and data storage systems.
- Experience of networking, building, and developing business network relationships.
- Experience of managing successful marketing campaigns, digitally and within a community setting.
- Proven experience of organising and delivering community events.
- Experience of measuring and reporting outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of the issues facing disabled people.
Desirable
- Personal lived experience of disability.
- Demonstrable understanding of the social model of disability.
- Demonstrates awareness, diplomacy, sensitivity, and empathy with the issues of disability and independence.

Travel and residence
Regular business travel will be required within the area along with occasional travel to other Scope areas of activity these may require overnight stays or longer in line with business need.
