Job description

Role purpose

The Head of Programmes will oversee the delivery of Scope’s strategy, An Equal Future. The role will champion new ways of working to support us deliver greater impact. The role will collaborate with senior colleagues to embed Scope’s strategy and will support teams to recognise and increase their impact. The role will lead the delivery of three key programmes that guide Scope and its colleagues towards achieving 'An Equal Future'.

Main responsibilities – what you are responsible for delivering

  • Oversee the delivery of three programmes and make sure these are on track and delivering outcomes.
  • Champion the development of an agile and flexible working culture, embedding testing and learning as standard practices.
  • Collaborate with senior colleagues to integrate 'An Equal Future' and help teams understand their contributions.
  • Support mission-based teams as a way of delivery to thrive and achieve impact.
  • Oversee Scope’s strategy by reporting on progress, reviewing whether activity is delivering impact for disabled people, and providing advice on where the organisation needs to change.
  • Understand the outcomes of Scope's interventions to ensure they are delivering the desired impact.
  • Report to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Board of Trustees, and external stakeholders on Scope’s impact.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Represent Scope at external meetings and events to promote our strategic initiatives and achievements.
  • Build a team environment where colleagues can work collaboratively, where constructive challenge is appreciated and where difference is valued.

Person specification

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  •  Proven experience in leading and managing organisational strategy and strategic programmes.
  • A strong understanding of impact measurement, performance indicators and reporting.
  • A strong understanding of agile working practices and experience of their application in a non-profit context.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Experience in measuring and evaluating impact.
  • An ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to a range of audiences. An understanding of the social model of disability. You know how important this is to achieve successful changes in policy, practice and attitudes.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining a high-performing, team-focused culture. You’ve led teams and groups of people to deliver their best work.

Desirable

  • Experience in bringing together staff from different areas to create and use strategies to influence people.
  • Proven success in working across teams to help develop and achieve the main goals and priorities of an organisation.
  • Understanding of the charity sector. You don’t have to have worked in a charity before, but you’ll be able to understand the context we operate in.

Skills and competencies

Essential

  •  Experience of leading teams through change (in culture, mindset as well as processes).
  • Ability to support colleagues through effective coaching, celebrating success and encouraging a growth mindset.
  • Exceptional programme and project management skills, with a good understanding of a range of methodologies.
  • A skilled people manager with a facilitative management style, effective delegation skills, and ability to build and maintain relationships as well as resolve conflict.

Desirable

  •  Knowledge of the use of AI in the workplace and in wider society
  • Understanding of Agile working and practices
