New government plans to measure poverty

Scope responds after the Government revealed it is planning to measure and publish new statistics on poverty.

Anna Bird, Director of Policy at disability equality charity Scope, said:

“It’s excellent news that the Government is to measure poverty.

“We know that disabled people face unfair extra costs that average £583 a month, and they are a serious source of economic stress.

“What gets measured gets done. "We look forward to working with Government to make sure the extra costs of disability are included. Concerted action can lift millions of disabled people out of poverty.”
