We are very sad to share that Matthew Johnston, a Scope Trustee since 2019, has died.
Matthew served on Scope’s Board of Trustees over two terms. Most recently, he chaired Scope’s External Audiences Committee, helping to shape how we represent and engage with disabled people.
As a disabled leader with a hearing impairment, Matthew was a powerful role model. He was passionate about the potential of technology to make a difference, and he brought that perspective to his work at Scope with warmth, insight and generosity.
Matthew will be remembered for his contribution as a Trustee and the huge difference he made to Scope colleagues, and the wider disability movement. He will be greatly missed by everyone at Scope.
Our thoughts are with Matthew’s family, friends and all those who knew him.
Mark Hodgkinson, Chief Executive at Scope, said:
“We are all incredibly sad that Scope Trustee Matthew Johnston has died.
Throughout his time with Scope, Matthew was a committed, optimistic and passionate advocate for an equal future.
As a disabled person himself, with hearing loss, he was a determined and positive advocate for our cause.
Matthew was a friend, as well as a great colleague, and our thoughts are with his family.”
