To be a part of SeeAbility’s Special School’s Eye Care team in a Sussex school or schools. You will be responsible for regular visits to the same school(s) during school term times only.  SeeAbility Special Schools Eye Care team training will be provided to all successful applicants.

You will work as part of SeeAbility’s Special Schools Eye Care Team, delivering specialist eye care in special schools in Sussex during term time only. You’ll visit the same schools regularly, with occasional need to cover other schools, and will receive full specialist training upon appointment.

This is a highly autonomous clinical role requiring expert judgement, advanced communication skills, and the ability to work confidently with children who have complex physical, learning, sensory and behavioural needs.

Requirements

  • Member of College of Optometrists 
  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant field desirable 
  • 2 years post qualification experience  
  • Advanced theoretical and practical experience across a broad range of optometric skills  
  • Demonstrable leadership skills 
  • Effective communicator

You will have your own caseload of Isle of Wight schools and will work collaboratively with our established eye care team, as well as the school staff teams, and under the guidance of the special schools service manager and dispensing optician clinical lead. 

Ability to attend multiple schools in Isle of Wight is required, as well as a full driving license and regular access to a car. 

Requirements

  • Qualified dispensing optician and member of Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO)
  • Satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check
  • 3 plus years experience as qualified Dispensing Optician
  • Hospital and specialist dispensing experience is desirable, including with children with disabilities although not essential as full training will be provided.
